Reiki – Healing Touch

Reiki is a form of energy healing

Reiki utilizes healing touch. To clarify,  the practice is done using hands-on  or hands-off touch and visualization. It is based on ancient Tibetan Buddhist teachings. Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered these teachings n the mid -1800’s. Dr. Usui was a professor of Theology in Kyoto, Japan. The word “Reiki” comes from Japanese word “Rei”, which means “Universal Life”  and the word “Ki”  which means “Energy”. Reiki is not a religious practice.  It is a subtle form of energy work. To clarify, it uses spiritually guided life force energy.

How It’s Done

The therapist assists you in restoring balance and harmony to your body by tapping into the life force energy,  You rest comfortably on a massage table on your back with shoes removed. A practicioner can also perform Reiki while you sit  comfortably in a chair. You wear comfortable, loose clothing. A Reiki practicioner can perfom the session with a light touch. Or the session can be hands-off, using a healing touch slightly above your body.

Benefits

You might feel a warming sensation or a tingling during the session, or simply sheer relaxation.  The session should be very pleasant, relaxing and invigorating. Reiki helps you relax, reduces stress, improves sleep, increase circulation and mental alertness.
